All are welcome to admire the public exhibition of artwork by students of the Youth Artist Studio (YAS). The showcase will include a selection of artwork by each student. This event is free to attend, and no registration is required.

Look deeply at photographer Gordon Park’s images of the Penola, Inc. Grease plant and the people who worked there in Pittsburgh’s Strip District in the 1940s in the exhibition Gordon Parks in Pittsburgh, 1944/1946. Discuss Park’s documentation of the plant, its workers, and the range of their activities manufacturing lubricants to support U.S. military efforts during World War II.

Meet up with a docent and other museum visitors for a Working Thought Art Chat. Discuss how artists raise our awareness to the many ways economic disparity and labor have shaped American life past and present.
Through three design prompts in increasing levels of depth of thinking, the in-gallery workshop is meant to encourage visitors to brainstorm and ideate about what they want to make, how form influences an object’s connotations, and what role objects can play in their own lives.
