Young learners can grow and learn with Mini Makers, school aged children can gather afterschool for Museum Makers or register for a full day Summer Camp, and older children and teens can hone their skills in the Art Connection and Youth Art Studio. Museum Makers is a weekly studio-based program that provides art-making, discussion, and sensory experiences for children ages 1 –10. Young artists will have exposure to a wide variety of art-making tools and materials but will also practice and stimulate problem solving and integrate learning from other areas of education such as math and reading, in a culturally significant institution.

The Art Connection is the longest continually running series of art classes for young artists in Pittsburgh. Now in its 97th year, The Art Connection will challenge young artists in grades 5–8 to create unique artworks inspired by the work in our galleries, culminating in an exhibition of their own at Carnegie Museum of Art. Each term, educators will facilitate a new art experience in either painting, drawing, ceramics, or photo and film.
Students in grades 9–12 will gather weekly to learn artistic skills to develop their personal art practices and portfolios as well as gather information regarding continued education and professions in the creative field. Professional artists, educators and other experts will lead students in studio explorations and discussions at the Museum and other off-site spaces like universities and galleries. Students will also be challenged to work as a group to curate and market the culminating art exhibition in which their own work will be showcased.
Kids are invited to play, explore and make in the museum on their days off from school. Whether it’s for one day or a whole week, we have you covered with engaging activities for select school holidays and summer vacation.
Registration for 2026 Summer Camps at Carnegie Museums of Art and Natural History will open in February, 2026.

During Day Off at the Museum, kids will find inspiration in the galleries and create original artworks through painting, printing, sculpting, and mixed media.
