Join us in the Ailsa Mellon Bruce Decorative Arts and Design galleries for an in-person story time with curatorial assistant Alyssa Velazquez! This month we’ll be reading The Keeping Quilt by Patricia Polacco followed by a making activity for children 12 and under led by teaching artist Jena Schieb.
This reading is made possible by Simon & Schuster/Paula Wiseman Books. To purchase past and present Story Saturday titles, checkout Carnegie Museum of Art Museum Store’s online reading section.
About the Book
From a basket of old clothes, Annaâs babushka, Uncle Vladimirâs shirt, Aunt Havalahâs nightdress, and an apron of Aunt Natashaâs, a family makes a quilt that is passed along from mother to daughter for almost a century. Follow the quiltâs journey as a Sabbath tablecloth to a wedding canopy and blanket that welcomes babies warmly into the world, to its final resting home at the Mazza Museum in Findley, Ohio. Join us as we think about what other stories unique objects in museums hold about the people who made them.
