Welcome (back) to Art School! It’s time to refresh and activate your creativity through this series of technique-building classes utilizing Carnegie Museum of Art’s collection and exhibitions as source material.

Studio Art Classes for Adults
Rewind, relax, and (re)connect your art practice with deep thought as you take on a world view in the 59th Carnegie International. Glean inspiration during guided visits to the exhibition in this class series designed for a range of skill levels and media interests. Classes offered are Expressions in Watercolor + Ink, Drawing What You See, and Ikebana + Drawing.
Includes materials, museum admission, and $5 parking rate on class days.

- 6-week classes: $200 ($175 Carnegie Museums members; $150 Mindful Museum members)
- Ikebana + Drawing has an additional $35 materials fee.
10 a.m.–1 p.m.
Learn the expressiveness and versatility of watercolor and ink through step-by-step instruction highlighting water control, color-mixing, and different paper types for desired results. Explore works in the exhibition that use water-based media to communicate ideas, histories, and connections to the past and the present.
1:30–4:30 p.m.
The basics of drawing are at the core of most artistic practice even for artists who choose to express themselves through a range of media. Learn or re-learn the important foundational strategies that support visual communication.
5–8p.m.
Delve into the “way of flowers,” or Ikebana, by considering this form of flower arranging as an artistic practice. Explore the work of artist Sofu Teshigahara, who founded The Sogetsu School of Ikebana, Japan, and work with the collective, Sogetsu Pittsburgh, to create your own arrangement. Take your exploration a step further by learning the nuances of drawing flowers. A visit to Carnegie Museum of Natural History’s Herbarium is included.

First Thursday Workshops
Get a taste for art-making in these 3-hour workshops designed for all levels. All materials provided and class participants receive $5 parking rate on class days.
