About Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh
Audiences and critics alike have praised The Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh’s performances, saying “EXCEPTIONAL and MEMORABLE . . . I’m still talking about it,” “One of the finest music events I have ever attended,” and “The Mendelssohn never ceases to amaze me . . . This city should be proud of its choir” (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette).
For more than one hundred years, the voices of the Grammy-nominated Mendelssohn Choir have soared across the greater Pittsburgh region and beyond. What makes the Mendelssohn Choir so remarkable is that most of its singers are not professional musicians but amateurs with diverse backgrounds and occupations. As the choral partner of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (PSO), the singers of the Mendelssohn Choir perform alongside world-renowned musicians. Their performances are recorded and distributed by Public Radio International, and the two organizations have a long shared discography and their latest recording of Mozart’s Requiem will be released in 2025 by Reference Recordings. When not in performance with the PSO, the Mendelssohn Choir is committed to creating community concerts.
