Crash Course Art History Classes
From Lore to Learning with Monet, Van Gogh, Tiffany, and Kahlo
These artists’ names might be familiar, or names we feel like we should know, but why? How might our experiences with artworks expand beyond a legacy of knowing? Why do Monet’s Waterlilies calm us, generation after generation? Why are stained glass lamps called Tiffany lamps?
This seminar will deepen our understanding of these artists by placing their work in a broader context. We will explore their connections to the ideas they were grappling with, their contemporaries, and connections to artists today, such as Mickalene Thomas, Yayoi Kusama, and artworks currently on view in our galleries by Joan Mitchell, Doris Salcedo, and Jaune Quick-to-See Smith.
Price
- $125 ($100 Carnegie Museums members; $75 Mindful Museum members)
