Step-by-Step Meditation

  1. Breathe deeply as you look at the sculpture.
  2. Focus your attention on the sun and its rays radiating outward. Contemplate the power and energy created by the sun in both this artwork and in the world.
  3. The Winter Solstice is the longest night of the year. Take a few moments in this meditation to reflect on this new season.
  4. Close your eyes and try to let go of the sunlight for a few deep breaths.
  5. Reflect on how your body and mind feel in the present moment.
  6. The Winter Solstice is often symbolic of rebirth and new beginnings as the days become longer.
  7. In order to prepare for this rebirth, try to let go of anything that doesn’t serve you. It could be an emotion, a memory, a habit, physical tension, or anything else that you want to release. Breathe in deeply as you imagine this idea, then exhale slowly as you release it from your life.
  8. Continue like this, releasing anything that doesn’t serve you as you prepare for new beginnings and brighter days in the coming year.
