Meditation on Dreams

“My dreams were all my own; I accounted for them to nobody; they were my refuge when annoyed—my dearest pleasure when free.”
Mary Shelley

Contemplate your hopes and visualize your aspirations with this guided meditation on dreams inspired by The Urn of Dreams by Adelaide A. Robineau. Follow along with the audio or text below.

Step-by-Step Meditation

  1. Take a few moments to look at this urn made of glazed porcelain.
  2. Bring your attention to the center of the urn. Slowly move your gaze outward to the different circles, of yellow, green, turquoise, and indigo.
  3. Continue expanding your awareness in this way, moving outward from the center circle.
  4. Close your eyes and focus on your breath. Feel your lungs expand on the inhale, just like the circles on the urn expand outward, and then come back in like the circle at the center of the urn. Visualize circles expanding in and out in your mind’s eye as you focus on your breath.
  5. Now, start to think about your own hopes and dreams. Let any ideas come freely to your mind, without judgment. Acknowledge any and all thoughts.
  6. Visualize yourself placing your dreams and ideas in a container, similar to The Urn of Dreams.
  7. Place each new idea into your imagined container and then visualize your dreams growing outward, expanding like the circles on the urn.
  8. Continue in this way to practice expanding your awareness and build confidence in your ideas and dreams.
