Saturday is the perfect day to curl up with a good read. Travel back to the early days of baseball with an essay from Storyboard, our award-winning online journal.
Charles “Teenie” Harris was a prolific photojournalist for the Pittsburgh Courier, one of the most influential black newspapers in the 20th century. In addition to his work as a photographer, Harris was a dedicated community member and avid baseball fan. He helped to found the Pittsburgh Crawfords, a team that would eventually become known as one of the greatest clubs of the 1920s.
The Teenie Harris Archive contains hundreds of images of baseball players, from young teams playing on neighborhood fields to professional athletes on Forbes Field.
