In Behind the Sun (2013), Monira Al Qadiri (b. 1983 in Dakar; lives in Berlin) juxtaposes amateur VHS video footage of the oil fires in Kuwait after the first Gulf War with audio monologues from Islamic television programs of the same period. Usually accompanying images of nature, in this instance, the recitation of Arabic poetry is set against footage of apocalyptic catastrophe.
