Gabriela Pinilla (born 1983, Bogotá, Colombia; lives in Bogotá, Colombia) is a visual artist and university professor with a focus on political history, intimate history, art history, film history, and neighborhood history. Pinilla is interested in the history that has been ignored and erased by institutions and official narratives. She creates paintings, installations, objects, books, and videos, rethinking specific historical events that she feels are key to understanding and transforming present-day history. She is interested in exploring the way history is written, documented, taught, and exhibited; to do so, she works with archives, newspaper reviews, historical novels, films, diaries, and family albums.
