asinnajaq (born 1991, Kuujjuaq, Canada; lives in Montreal, Canada) is the daughter of Carol Rowan and Jobie Weetaluktuk. From Inukjuak, Nunavik, they currently live and work in the care of the St. Lawrence River and Lac St. Louis. asinnajaq attended the film program of Nova Scotia School of Art and Design University. Employing many mediums including photography, writing, moving images, and curation, they inhabit an expansive space in the arts. asinnajaq is primarily interested in making space for growing and taking care of the tools that help us along life’s journey. They are the writer and director of the short documentary Three Thousand (2017), produced by the National Film Board of Canada. They were a member of the curatorial team for ISUMA’s presence in the “Canadian” Pavillion at the 58th Venice Biennale (2019) and of the curatorial team for the inaugural exhibition at the WAG-Qaumajuq, and they collaborated with the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts to curate the permanent collection exhibition of Inuit art uummaqutik (2024). asinnajaq is a recipient of the 2020 Sobey Art Award and the 2024 New Generation Photography Award. Their work has been shown across Turtle Island, Europe, and Oceania.
