If not, ever so gently rub a leaf between your fingers.

Explore the top and bottom of a leaf.
Look at the textures and color present on both sides
All of these Perilla cultivars were developed in relation to human preferences.
In Japan, shiso is primarily cultivated for leaves. If it is summer or
fall and there is an abundance of leaves, you may feel the urge to
pick one. Gently tear a small piece, if you wish, and taste it.
In India, bhangjeera is grown for the seed rather than the leaf. If it
is fall, taste a flower or a seed.
