Learn the stories behind some intriguing works from the collection and find out more about the people who buy, move, hang, clean, and care for them. Over the course of nine weeks, a team of registrars, conservators, preparators, and curators will be sharing their work with the public as they examine objects recently taken out of storage.
This small exhibition will offer fun facts about the collection while examining nine featured artworks with particularly intriguing stories to tell: a polyurethane bathtub that needs to be burped; an installation piece with a very particular set of assembly instructions; a painting so heavy it requires a specialized cart to move it; and a peculiar assortment of melted wax heads. Visitors will be able to play with some of the tools of the trade in a special hands-on section.
Uncrated: The Hidden Lives of Artworks is organized by the staff of Carnegie Museum of Art.
