We are excited to celebrate the 90th birthday of The Art Connection (TAC) this spring! For nearly a century, the museum has continued the tradition of working with Pittsburgh’s young artists to help them hone technical skills and foster imagination.
Coinciding with our milestone 90th year, the 57th Carnegie International inspired students in TAC. Each grade level explored different facets of the exhibition; for example, Lynette Yiadom-Boakye’s figurative paintings and Thaddeus Mosley’s dynamic sculptures inspired the fifth graders’ study of gesture, form, and shape; eighth grade students studied materials and symbols by looking at the work of El Anatsui and Postcommodity. These concepts found their way into the students’ mixed media projects.
We are very proud to present TAC student work for exhibition in the Hall of Sculpture this May. The exhibition launches with a celebratory opening reception on May 5; all are welcome.
