Story Sunday: What’s a Cup?

Celebrate Asian Heritage Month with Alyssa Velazquez, the curator of Locally Sourced, and Barbara Litt, Senior Lecturer in Japanese at Carnegie Mellon University, as they read What’s a Cup? by Oki Sato, founder of the Japanese design studio Nendo. Join us in our first-ever bilingual Story Sunday featuring Nendo’s first graphic picture book.

The story follows a cup with no spoon who tries to solve the problem of how to stir coffee. In doing so, the cup transforms—changing itself into different forms as it searches for a solution.

Nendo, in Japanese, describes a modeling clay like Play-Doh. The story will be followed by a cup-making activity for children ages 12 and under.

The materials list for this activity is as follows:

• Three to four colorful square pieces of paper per person (5×5 or larger)
• One pair of scissors to share
• Glue stick
