Join us in the Ailsa Mellon Bruce Decorative Arts and Design galleries for an in-person story time with Alyssa Velazquez, Curatorial Assistant for Decorative Arts and Design, reading Abuela’s Weave by Omar S. Castaneda, followed by a making activity for children 12 and under.
In Abuela’s Weave, hear the story of Esperanza, a young girl who works at the loom with her grandmother, Abuela, whose skill in weaving traditional Mayan tapestries is unmatched. But Esperanza is worried that shoppers at the local market are only interested in machine-made goods. Not only does Esperanza turn out to be a big success with the shoppers, but she also learns an important lesson about family tradition and hope.
This reading is made possible by Lee & Low Books.
