Founded in 1983, Pittsburgh Youth Chorus provides a musically and socially rich environment where young people, ages 6-18, feel a deep sense of belonging, commitment, and connection with others.  In a world in which life seemed increasingly fragmented, PYC centers its work on the intangible benefits that music affords the human heart and the human spirit—integration, inspiration, an appreciation of beauty, and feelings of increased vitality and well-being. Recognized by other arts organizations for the musical excellence and poise of its singers, PYC offers its participants once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to work with world-class artists and to perform on some of the most reputable stages in the Pittsburgh region.

Pittsburgh Taiko is dedicated to bringing the art and spirit of Japanese ensemble drumming (kumidaiko, 組太鼓) to the Pittsburgh area. Taiko draws on Japanese arts and folk traditions to create a dynamic, modern performance. Pittsburgh Taiko has studied, taught, and performed taiko for 15 years, with an emphasis on educational outreach events in collaboration with the Japan-America Society of Pennsylvania and University of Pittsburgh Asian Studies Center. Mr. Peng Li, born into a family of magicians, began learning magic at a young age from his mother, Yang Xinying, a celebrated Chinese magician and national first-class performer. He made his stage debut at 14 and has appeared in major events such as CCTV’s Qu Yuan Za Tan and the Tianjin TV Spring Festival Gala, earning multiple awards in Chinese magic competitions. In 1999, he was invited by the International Brotherhood of Magicians to perform in the U.S., where he later settled. Known for blending Sichuan Bian Lian (face-changing) with magic, he captivates audiences by seamlessly incorporating props like umbrellas and fans into his innovative, one-of-a-kind performances.

李鹏

李鹏先生出生于魔术世家，母亲杨新英是中国著名魔术大师、国家一级演员。李鹏先生从小跟随母亲学习魔术，14岁正式登台表演。曾参与中央台曲苑杂坛、天津台春晚等多个大型文艺晚会的演出。曾在中国魔术比赛中多次获奖。1999年受美国兄弟魔术协会邀请来美国演出，此后定居美国。二十年来走遍美国各州，给美国观众带来具有中国特色的魔术表演。李鹏先生在从事魔术表演的同时还不断的创新，他将四川变脸与魔术巧妙的融合在一起，在变脸的同时用魔术的手法变出伞、扇子等。

Maria Angelica Caruso, a Pittsburgh native, is a dynamic artist and entrepreneur whose Bodiography brand spans dance, wellness, and community impact. Leading four performance companies, a dance conservatory, and innovative fitness and movement therapy programs, she promotes health, inclusivity, and education. Caruso’s career highlights include her acclaimed solo “Metamorphosis,” performed globally and streamed on Amazon Prime, with its sequel, “Incarnation,” premiering in London’s West End in 2024. Through Bodiography, Caruso connects communities with the transformative power of dance, providing diverse programs in public classes, pre-professional training, and partnerships with institutions like La Roche University.

Founded in October 2009 by Dr. Hesheng Bao, Win-Win Kung Fu Culture Center promotes authentic Chinese martial arts in the U.S. Its instructors, recruited from top Chinese martial arts schools, are national and international champions with extensive teaching experience. Since opening, the center has trained over 200 local practitioners, many of whom have excelled in international martial arts competitions. Notable achievements include six U.S. Traditional Wushu Team members, a world Tai Chi champion, and over 40 gold medals in regional events. Offering Kung Fu, contemporary Wushu, self-defense, Tai Chi, and Qigong, Win-Win provides training for students of all ages and skill levels.

双赢功夫文化中心

Since its founding in 2015 by brothers Jason and Sean Neukom, Beo String Quartet has championed a forward-thinking vision that redefines what it means to be a chamber ensemble in the 21st century. With over 65 world premieres of new chamber works to its name, Beo is relentless in its pursuit of innovation and storytelling through music. Their unique programming seamlessly blends classical masterworks with contemporary compositions. Beo’s performances captivate listeners across the globe, with extensive tours throughout the United States, South America, and Europe. Their concerts are known for creating a narrative arc that explores music’s powerful storytelling ability, bridging disparate works and evoking raw, heartfelt emotions. The quartet’s commitment to pushing artistic boundaries extends beyond the concert stage. In 2018, they founded NeuKraft Records, a platform to reimagine how chamber music albums are crafted and released. Their four albums—Heart Sleeve Triptych, Ghosts Revisited, 131, and TriggerLand—showcase an eclectic blend of string quartet masterpieces, original compositions, and concept-driven works. The critically acclaimed album 131 was described by Fanfare Magazine as a “compelling, thought-provoking, and musically satisfying journey,” while their live performances have earned accolades for their purity of intonation and unified interpretive depth, as noted by New York Classical Review.

Balafon West African Dance Ensemble is a dynamic performance company born out of a passion for dance and cultural expression. Founded by the late Mama Kadiatou Conte in 1997, Balafon carries on a rich legacy of offering enriching opportunities to experience the joyful spirit of traditional West African dance. Known for immersive movement, striking costumes, spirited song and authentic drumming, Balafon draws from classical arts from Guinea, other parts of West Africa and beyond to touch hearts of all ages, backgrounds and walks of life. Wu Yanlai began her dance journey at 12, studying at the Affiliated High School of Beijing Dance Academy and later joining its Performance Department and Youth Dance Company. In 2004, she founded her own dance school in Pittsburgh, dedicating 20 years to teaching authentic Chinese dance and promoting its art to the community. Yanlai has trained thousands of students and frequently teaches at local schools and universities. In 2015, she choreographed a Chinese adaptation of The Nutcracker, which debuted to great acclaim at Pittsburgh’s Grand Theater. Recognized for her cultural contributions, she won the 2017 Immigrant Entrepreneur Award in Culture and Arts.

燕来舞蹈学院-吴燕来

吴燕来12岁考入北京舞蹈学院附中，毕业后考入北京舞蹈学院表演系，之后留校进入青年舞团。2004年到匹兹堡成立了自己的舞蹈学校。开始了自己的教学和创业生涯。 20年来，燕来老师一直兢兢业业致力于教学，为的是让学生们接触到真正的中国民族舞蹈，让社区看到真正的中国舞蹈艺术。燕来不仅仅只在自己的学校教课，同时也常常应邀给当地的学校和大学教授中国舞，培养过的学生数以千计。2015年5月燕来老师精心设计，导演和编排出大型舞蹈中国版胡桃夹子在匹兹堡大剧场隆重上演，取得巨大成功，一时成为佳话。当地几乎所有的主流媒体都多次报道过燕来舞校和燕来老师。2015年当地最大的媒体搞了一个100个国家100位优秀人物活动，燕来作为中国的代表入选。2017年来自25个国家的44名被提名者参加了在匹兹堡第二届移民企业家庆祝暨颁奖典礼。 仅有的7名获奖者中吴燕来是文化艺术类的获得者。

Terisa “Xiaoting” Xu is a celebrated vocalist and music educator, admired for her heartfelt performances at Pittsburgh’s Lunar New Year Gala. As director of the Pittsburgh Chinese Cultural Center Chorus, she has brought traditional Chinese music to life at major city events. A graduate of Beijing Contemporary Music Academy, Terisa has earned numerous awards, including a Gold Medal at the Singapore International Chinese Arts Festival. Beyond performing, she teaches at Pittsburgh Chinese School, judges art competitions at the University of Pittsburgh, and serves on the PCCC Board, dedicating herself to sharing and celebrating culture in her community.

许筱婷（Terisa Xu）

许筱婷（Terisa “Xiaoting” Xu）是一位备受赞誉的歌唱家和音乐教育家，因其在匹兹堡春节晚会上的深情演出而广受喜爱。作为匹兹堡华人文化中心合唱团的指挥，她在城市各大活动中让传统中国音乐焕发新生。毕业于北京现代音乐学院的她，曾获得多个奖项，包括新加坡国际华人艺术节金奖。除了表演，许筱婷还在匹兹堡中文学校任教，担任匹兹堡大学艺术比赛评委，并在匹兹堡华人文化中心（PCCC）董事会服务，致力于在社区中传播和庆祝文化。

The waist drum dance is a popular part of Chinese traditional celebrations, commonly featured in various Chinese festive occasions. A red drum is strapped to the waist using colorful ribbons, allowing the drummers great mobility as they play upbeat rhythms and dance to joyful music. Xiaobo’s Waist Drum Dance Group is composed of both Chinese and American performers. They have showcased their talents in several states, including Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Las Vegas, during international festivals, community parades, and Chinese New Year galas. Their performances have received a warm reception from audiences worldwide.

“Yu Ge Choir” is a unique and renowned female vocal choir celebrated in Pennsylvania and Pittsburgh, USA. Founded by a renowned mezzo-soprano singer, its members consist of vocal enthusiasts from diverse professions and various age groups.

Ms. Danyu Xia, a renowned mezzo-soprano, is the founder and vocal director of the “Yu Ge Choir.” She graduated from the Opera Department of the China Conservatory of Music in her early years. As a featured performer, she has participated in numerous nationally acclaimed performances in both China and the United States. Prior to immigrating to the U.S., she served for many years as a vocal music lecturer in the Performance Department at Beijing Film Academy, where she trained and mentored many of today’s well-known film and television actors. With over 20 years of dedication to vocal music research, Ms. Xia has been committed to unlocking the potential of her students. Her students have been invited to perform in numerous large-scale theatrical productions both globally and locally, earning widespread recognition and unanimous praise from audiences of all kinds.

宇歌合唱团 

“宇歌组合”是享誉美国宾夕法尼亚州和匹兹堡市的一只独树一帜的女声金嗓子合唱团，由著名女中音歌唱创立。成员由来自不同职业、不同年龄的声乐爱好者组成。

夏丹宇，著名女中音歌唱家，是《宇歌组合》创始人暨声乐指导，早年毕业于中国音乐学院歌剧系。作为特邀演员，参加过国内外很多大型演出。曾任北京电影学院表演系声乐教师多年。培养出众多当代知名的电影和电视表演艺术家。夏丹宇老师执教二十多年来，潜心声乐研究，致力于开发潜能。为华人社区培养了一批又一批出类拔萃的声乐人才。她们曾多次应邀参加全球及当地社区的大型文艺演出，赢得了广大观众的高度肯定和一致赞赏。

Flying Strings Youth Ensemble is a nonprofit organization. We are a group of talented young musicians playing various instruments. We blend traditional Chinese and western music. We bring music to our community and share our passion with everyone.

Our students have consistently achieved success, earning top honors in prestigious competitions and excelling in ABRSM piano exams, an internationally recognized standard of musical achievement. Many have gone on to major in music, while others have applied their skills to practical and entrepreneurial pursuits, including performing gigs, teaching their own students, and arranging pop music.
