Friends and Family Photo Studio 2022

Make Carnegie Museum of Art the backdrop for your seasonal photo! Gather friends, family, loved ones, or yourself for a portrait taken by a professional photographer from the region. Registrants will choose from a selection of five different backgrounds within the many beautiful spaces and places of the museum. This year, we’re partnering with a talented lineup of Pittsburgh-area photographers including:

• Cameron Brown
• Beth Kukucka
• Heather Mull
• Porter Loves

Twenty minute photo sessions will take place on Saturdays and Sundays from November 5 through December 4 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

There is a maximum of six participants per session. If you would like to have more than six people in your photos, please sign up for two consecutive sessions to ensure there is enough time allotted. Five high-resolution digital photographs from your photo session will be provided by the photographer following your session for your exclusive use and printing.

Museum admission is not required to register for the Friends and Family Photo Studio.

Grand Staircase

The museum’s soaring three-story Grand Staircase is the centerpiece of the 1907 addition to the original Carnegie Institute building. Constructed with elegant marble and featuring plenty of striking balconies, this backdrop is perfect for your photoshoot.

Hall of Architecture

Our century-old Hall of Architecture is brimming with plaster casts of architectural wonders from all over the world! As if that weren’t a striking enough backdrop, the Hall of Architecture is also home to the Carnegie Trees, an annual installation of five 18-foot tall Douglas Firs decked out for the season. Carnegie Trees will open on Friday, November 18—all shoots occurring before November 19 will not feature the Carnegie Trees.

Hall of Sculpture Balcony

One of the most photographed spaces in the museum by our visitors, the Hall of Sculpture is a pristine room made almost entirely of white marble. Styled after the interior of the Parthenon in Athens, the Hall of Sculpture is a bright and airy space that houses our Greco-Roman cast collection as well as a number of striking artworks from Is it morning for you yet?, the 58th Carnegie International!

Music Hall Foyer

Boasting dark green marble columns and intricate gilded-age fixtures, the Carnegie Music Hall Foyer is arguably the grandest space in the city of Pittsburgh.

Sculpture Court

Embrace the winter season by taking your holiday photo outdoors in our Sculpture Court! Whether it is sunny or snowing, this location will make for a beautiful photo. Located in the center of the museum campus, the Sculpture Court is home to seven sculptures from our collection that are on view year-round.

Meet the Photographers:

Cameron Brown is a documentary photographer who focuses on the subtle nuances and easily forgotten moments of everyday life. Adopting the “fly-on-the-wall” approach from great street and documentary photographers, his ethos is not to bruise or disrupt the scene. Cameron holds a BA in Mass Media Communication, with a focus in advertising from Carlow University. However, his photographic journey began in late 2017 as creative therapy after the passing of his mother.

Beth Kukucka has been a passionate wedding and portrait photographer for over 15 years. She has been published in publications including Time Magazine and Rolling Stone. She has photographed over 500 weddings.

Heather Mull was the staff photographer for Pittsburgh City Paper from 1999 to 2016 and was a founding contributor to Table Magazine. She loves people and is a seasoned portraitist who sincerely engages in the process of getting to know her subjects, finding out what motivates them, and working with them to express their internal spirit outwardly through their image.

Nathan J Shaulis is the photographer behind the team that makes up Porter Loves. He fell in love with photography the very first moment his father laid a manual film camera in his 12-year-old hands. He studied and practiced for years, learning every aspect of each successive tool by taking photos of anything and everything. Porter Loves celebrates nine years in business in 2021, but Nathan has taken photographs for over 30 years. He has a unique talent for making folks feel comfortable in front of his camera.
