About the Artists
Good Dude Lojack
Good Dude Lojack is a musician at heart, surviving and thriving in a DJ/producer world.
Malzof
As a long-time events and community organizer, Malzof is well-known for their public art, projection art/installations, and musical output.
Sweet Abyss resident Malzof has been DJing for over a decade, playing their own signature style of transgender dance music. As a lifelong music collector, their sound archives go deep. Heavily influenced by intelligent dance, ambient, experimental, breaks, sampling, and dance music of all kinds, they are not afraid to collage and blend. They see DJing as an extension of all the work they do—to bring people together, to encourage moments of release and joy, and to support people in showing up in their true expressions as resistance against hegemony.
You may have heard Malzof play just about everywhere imaginable in Pittsburgh, or in Philadelphia, NYC, DC, Ithaca, Rochester, Montreal, Detroit, throughout California, or on your radio waves across the world. Malzof brings their creative vision and multimedia art practice into the ways they share and cast sound.
Malzof is a studio artist with BOOM Concepts and is a resident artist and co-founder of the Sweet Abyss event series centering trans/queer electronics and live performance. Malzof is also a resident DJ at Mary’s PGH and has a bimonthly radio show on NARR Radio (Leeds, UK) called “Jamming with Malzof.” This show was formerly held through a residency at Half Moon BK Radio. As a huge lover of the radio platform, Malzof has played live sets on internet stations such as The Lot Radio (NYC), Refuge Worldwide (Berlin), Mutant Radio (in both Tbilisi and Berlin), Radio Relativa (Madrid), Great Circles (Philadelphia), Lower Grand Radio (Oakland) and regional FM stations across Detroit/Windsor, Columbus, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and more! Malzof loves to explore weird sonics, sampling, storytelling, community collaboration, and dancing.
DJ Papaya
Based in Philadelphia, DJ Papaya’s approach to mixing draws upon bass music, downtempo, and left-field electronics to craft surreal and emotionally complex narratives both rich in texture and rooted in the sensibilities of dub. They are a co-founder of the live electronic music series Spindrift and the bass music party Chrysalis. DJ Papaya also hosts a monthly show, “False Imprint,” on Particle.fm, an online radio station based in San Diego. They have performed at festivals such as Ever Afters, Making Time, Inner Smile, and Wildlife.
