In this lively symposium, equal parts public forum and celebration, hear the findings of 20 creative research projects for Keyword: International. Launched in January 2018 as a partnership between Kelly Strayhorn Theater and Carnegie Museum of Art, Keyword: International is a collaborative initiative seeking to creatively define Pittsburgh as an international city at this moment in time.
Over 50 arts activators—organizations, curators, and programmers—responded to an open call for research proposals that would explore the meaning of “international” in terms of audience, mission, vision, or aspiration. A review panel composed of community members Yona Harvey (poet and professor at the University of Pittsburgh), Jake Goodman (executive director of the Opportunity Fund), and Justin Strong (general manager of Spirit) considered the potential of the proposed research to connect with ideas, communities, and urgent conversations.
Twenty applicants were awarded microgrants of $1,500 to support their research. The awardees will present their findings for the first time at this symposium.
A commissioned text based on the Keyword: International research will be published in the Dispatch, the forthcoming catalogue for the 2018 Carnegie International.
See the Kelly Strayhorn page for a full list of awardees.
