About the Artists
Rafael Domenech is an interdisciplinary artist living in New York (b. Havana, 1989). Domenech is at the forefront of a new generation of artists that is redefining the exhibition experience. He explores notions of architecture, urban design, and contemporary material productions to develop and produce different typologies of objects and spaces, such as experimental publications, pavilions, installations, and public programs.
Hugo Cruz is a Cuban-born, award-winning, internationally renowned drummer who has performed in South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Mexico, Venezuela, and the United States. He is the leader of the group Caminos, which had its Pittsburgh debut at the Pittonkatonk festival in May 2019, where they performed rhythms of the African diaspora and Cuban music for thousands.
About Inside Out
Inside Out takes place from Saturday, June 4 through Saturday, August 13 in the museum’s Sculpture Court in an immersive pavilion by artist Rafael Domenech, commissioned for the 58th Carnegie International.
Inside Out is Carnegie Museum of Art’s free outdoor summer event series. On Thursday nights from 5 to 9 p.m., Pittsburgh’s expansive nightlife scene takes over the Sculpture Court. A lineup of some of the city’s most dynamic DJs transforms the Sculpture Court into a can’t miss happy hour destination for friends and dancing during the week. On Saturdays from noon to 5 p.m., everyone is invited to enjoy performances from regional arts organizations and performers, soak in summer sounds from DJs, grab a bite from local food trucks, and get creative with artists and art-making.
