Join Dr. Sinéad Vilbar, Janice Hammond and Edward Hemmelgarn Curator of Japanese Art, Cleveland Museum of Art, for a journey that follows the print Dragon and Tiger by Sesson Shūkei, from its original private location in Japan to the Cleveland Museum of Art, and then back to Japan.
Co-presented programs at Carnegie Museum of Art support artists and organizations with physical space and program resources. These mutually supportive relationships create shared audiences, expand programmatic offerings, and contribute to the rich cultural ecology of the region.
This lecture is part of the “Digital Replicas of Traditional Art in Japan; Curators’ Perspectives” series, sponsored by the United States-Japan Foundation through the National Association of Japan-America Societies in cooperation with the Kyoto Culture Association and Canon Inc. This series represents a novel means to open a discussion about preservation, the role of technology and issues related to the return of artworks to original locations.
