For Representation Purpose Only looks at food packaging and labelling regulations in India. The regulations are intended to be at the service of providing a faithful representation. But just like any other law, these are open to interpretation. Through the reading performance, the artist, alongside viewers, will attempt to analyze and guess what is inside the closed food packet. It will unfold through three forms of representation regulated on food packaging: the image, text and symbol.
Each section approaches the packet as a site where representation is made to stand in for the thing itself. Through reading, looking, speculating, and examining, the performance asks whether a regulated representation can ever be faithful to the thing it represents. The closed packet becomes a space of uncertainty in which the product is encountered first through its representations, before it is encountered as a product.
