As a thank you for contributing to the Pittsburgh Satellite Reef, part of the worldwide crochet coral reef project by Christine and Margaret Wertheim and the Institute For Figuring at the Carnegie Museum of Art, we are inviting all to claim a coral!
Each one of the over 1,000 fibrous creations will be given away to participants and visitors. We encourage all attendees to take a coral home with them. Corals will be distributed pre-packaged and on a first come first serve basis. From 10 a.m.–noon, the claiming of a coral will be reserved for project participants and later in the afternoon our differently sized mystery grab bags will be handed out to the general public.
Join us in giving back these crocheted creatures to the crafters who made them and all the admirers who enjoyed the Carnegie Museum of Art’s artful archipelago over the past two years.
Even through this is the exhibition’s concluding program, we hope the distribution of these hyperbolic handcrafts will grow our human connection to the ecology of the Pittsburgh Satellite Reef, a large-scale community-based art project and invite further discussions on sustainability and endurance in the homes and lives of everyone impacted by this global issue.
