Based on the Japanese folktale The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter, the film revolves around the divine princess who revels in and struggles with mortal life and its many rules. Carnegie International artist Rachel Rose raved, “really, one of the most inspiring films that I wish I had seen as a kid.”
About Cinematheque
The 2018 International transforms the Carnegie Museum fo Art Theater into a cinematheque. Taking its name from the French, a cinematheque is a small film house or a film library. Libraries open up a world of knowledge to the public, and the International’s Cinematheque likewise brings to Pittsburgh worlds captured by filmmakers near and far.
