Join community archivist Charlene Foggie-Barnett and artist Jamea Richmond-Edwards for an intimate lunchtime conversation moderated by Jessica Gaynelle Moss, exploring themes of storytelling, preservation, and the power of portraiture.
Foggie-Barnett, born and raised in Pittsburgh’s Hill District and intimately connected to the Charles “Teenie” Harris Archive, will offer insights from her lifelong commitment to preserving and celebrating Black history for future generations. Rooted in Richmond-Edwards’ Detroit upbringing and shaped by her Sibyls Shrine winter residency in Pittsburgh, this discussion will offer a glimpse into her evolving research and recent body of allegorical portraiture work, imagining a fuller, freer, and more abundant future. Together, we will discuss their intersections of art, archival practices, mythology, and ancestral memory, inviting the audience into a dialogue on the power of legacy—how past generations shape present work, and how today’s efforts lay the groundwork for tomorrow.
