Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh members are invited to preview Joan Brown, the first major survey of the artist Joan Brown (1938-1990) in over 20 years. Be among the first to experience this compelling exhibition that spans the prolific career of a painter known for her large-scale, high-key portraits of family, animals, and herself. This exhibition charts a full trajectory from the artist’s student days in the 1950s Bay Area to her premature death in 1990, and will re-introduce this under-recognized, yet critically important painter to new generations of audiences.
Meet and mingle with fellow members and enjoy themed refreshments during this members-only reception with gallery spotlight tours. The support of members helps us share exhibitions like Joan Brown with over one million people throughout the Pittsburgh region and beyond.
Joan Brown is organized by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
