Carnegie Museum of Art’s Saturday art classes nurture creative thinking, thoughtful observation, and perseverance towards achieving goals. With a variety of themes and practices, these classes take place over 4 consecutive Saturdays. Expect the unexpected! We encourage experimentation: our imaginative exercises work toward inventive results.

Imagination Installation (Ages 5–7)

Walk into some room-sized installation art and imagine your own 3-D world. Get inspired by installations that include tents, parrots, and sand in Hélio Oiticica: To Organize Delirium. Team up with classmates on large-scale installations that fill the studio.
Fun with Clay (Ages 5–7)

Cost: $115 ($104 CMP members)

Get your hands messy as you sculpt with wet clay. Learn hand-building techniques and try out the potter’s wheel. Make functional vessels and imaginative sculptures and bring them to life with colorful glazes. Projects will be fired and available for pick-up 3-4 weeks later. Price includes $40 materials fee.
The Art of Performance (Ages 8–10)

Get inspired by video and performance art in addition to paintings and sculptures as you collaborate with your classmates to create, direct, and video-record live performances. Large-scale environments and samba-inspired wearable art by Brazilian artist Hélio Oiticica will spark your ideas for props and settings. Videos will be compiled on a DVD and mailed 3-4 weeks later.
