Tune in to afternoon storytime with the curator of Locally Sourced Alyssa Velazquez reading Crafty Chloe by Kelly DiPucchio and illustrated by Heather Ross, followed by a making activity for children 12 and under. It’s a story hour that is meant to empower crafty children everywhere by “making stuff,” as Crafty Chloe says, and owning our maker identities through the sharing of stories.
What type of birthday gift could you make for your best friend? Explore all the creative possibilities of what you can do, and the perfect presents you can make. The activity for this event will involve making a sock puppet for your friend or yourself. You’ll need:
- Lonely sock(s)
- Rice or beans (or other filling material)
- Rubber band(s)
- Scissors
- Marker(s)
- Piece of paper
- Ribbon of any kind (optional)
- Old t-shirt (optional)
This reading is made possible with the permission of Simon & Schuster. Purchase your own copy of Crafty Chloe from the Carnegie Museum of Art Store.
